Welcome to our school

Our school is celebrating 60 years of educating the children of Crumlin Hospital this year.

In 1961 the staff of the children's hospital here in Crumlin identified the need for an education service for the children in their care. In April 1963, a department-recognised school, Our Lady's Hospital Special School, began to teach in-patients both in a classroom setting and at the bedside. Ms. Margaret McGennis was the first principal teacher and led the school from 1963 until 2003.

Over the last 60 years, the school service has grown from the 1 teacher school set up in a staffroom of the hospital. We now have 11 staff members in a purpose-built multi-denominational school and under the patronage of the City of Dublin ETB.

We still offer daily classroom and bedside sessions.

Make every day count!

The Schoolroom is open daily for patients who are mobile and infection-free and whose medical team permits them to attend.

Primary School session  10 am - 11 am

Post-Primary School session  1 pm - 2.30 pm

One to One teaching is also available at the Bedside for all those patients who must stay in the ward.

We have both Primary and Post-Primary qualified teachers on staff here, together with the support of a Special Needs Assistant.  We implement the Primary, Junior Cycle, and Leaving Cert. curricula.

The hospital school is a designated State Exam Centre, so if you are unfortunate enough to end up in the hospital at exam time, fear not, we will facilitate you to sit your exams here!

We look forward to welcoming you while you are in the hospital and celebrating all your efforts and successes.
